Celebrating World Physical Therapy Day

About World PT Day

World PT Day is celebrated on September 8th every year. The day is an opportunity for physical therapists from all over the world to raise awareness about the crucial contribution the profession makes to keeping people well, mobile and independent.

  • In 1996, the World Confederation of Physical Therapy designated September 8th as World PT Day. This is the date World Physiotherapy was founded in 1951.

  • Physical Therapy is now utilized to treat a wide range of diseases and conditions. Back pain, osteoarthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, bursitis, muscular strains, Guillain-Barre syndrome, balance disorders, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and a variety of other illnesses may be treated. The goals of physical therapy vary depending on the patient’s specific needs, but common intended outcomes include pain relief, increased range of motion, endurance and strength, independence, stress reduction, and a higher quality of life for the patient. We are so thankful for all of our providers at Galena Sport that help our community.

This year's theme: Osteoarthritis

Every year there is a different theme for World PT Day. The focus of this year is Osteoarthritis and the role that physical therapists play in the prevention and in management of people affected by osteoarthritis. Below is an infographic on Osteoarthritis and how PT can help.

To recognize our staff this year for their hard work, we had an ice cream day at all three clinics!
