Outdoor Activities To Do This Winter

Looking for new outdoor activities to keep you active this winter? We’ve got you covered. Listed below are three  activities that are great for the whole family, and are physically distanced from others.

Chickadee Ridge Snowshoe Hike- New Washoe City, NV

If you haven’t been to Chickadee Ridge, you’re in for a treat. This 3-mile hike has amazing views of Lake Tahoe, and you can feed the Chickadee birds right out of your hand. Snowshoeing can burn more calories than walking, and it makes it easy to maintain physical distance during the pandemic. If you enjoy low-impact workouts and stunning views, you should check out this hike!

PS- Don’t forget to wear waterproof shoes to go on top of your snowshoes and wear lots of layers!

Skiing/ Snowboarding- Mt. Rose, Squaw Valley, NorthStar Ski Resorts

All three of these ski resorts are local and have spectacular views. Skiing and snowboarding are both great cardiovascular workouts. They both strengthen your lower body, improve your flexibility, and engage your core muscles. With COVID, you have to have a reservation, so check availability ahead of time, and don’t forget your mask!   This picture was taken in January 2020 BC.

Sledding/Tubing

Not much beats sledding or tubing down a mountain in the beautiful Tahoe sun. It’s a fun activity for the whole family and a great workout. Sledding uses specific muscle groups to control your balance on the sled, but more importantly, walking back up the hill after you get to the bottom provides a great aerobic exercise. All you need to bring is warm clothing and a sled or a tube. Linked below is all the different locations you can play in the snow for free.
